  • 4 tablespoons cooking oil
  • 1 pound ground beef or ground pork
  • 4 pieces red hot dogs, sliced diagonally
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 medium yellow onion, diced
  • 1/4 medium red bell pepper, finely diced (optional)
  • 1 cup banana ketchup or tomato ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 can tomato sauce (15 ounces)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar or granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water from pasta
  • 1 teaspoon salt, more if needed
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheese for toppings

Instructions:

  1. Cook the spaghetti pasta according to package instructions. Reserve 1 cup of pasta water and drain the excess.
  2. Heat 2 tablespoons of cooking oil in a large skillet. Fry the sliced hot dogs for about 3-5 minutes, then remove them from the skillet and set aside.
  3. Add another 2 tablespoons of cooking oil in the same skillet. Sauté garlic, onion, and bell pepper (if you’re using this ingredient) until translucent.
  4. Add the ground beef, salt, and black pepper. Cook until the meat is lightly browned and tender, breaking it into small pieces with a spatula.
  5. Pour in banana ketchup, tomato paste, tomato sauce, sugar, and reserved pasta water. Mix everything until well combined. Cover and let it simmer over low to medium heat for about 30 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  6. Add the fried hot dogs and stir to combine. Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper as needed. Turn the heat off.
  7. Serve the cooked pasta individually on plates and pour the sauce over it. Sprinkle with shredded cheese on top. Enjoy your meal!
