Gordon Ramsay's Lasagna Recipe

Ingredients for the Bolognese Sauce:

  • ½ pound lean ground beef
  • ½ pound Italian sausage
  • 1 white onion, diced
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • ¼ cup chopped fresh parsley
  • 70 g diced celery
  • 70 g diced carrots
  • 3 tbsps extra virgin olive oil
  • 100 ml red wine
  • salt
  • pepper
  • bay leaves
  • dried oregano
  • Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tbsps tomato paste mixed with water

Ingredients for the White Sauce:

  • 25 g butter
  • 25 g flour
  • 300 ml cold milk
  • salt and pepper
  • nutmeg
  • cheddar cheese

Additional Ingredients:

  • Parmesan cheese

Directions for the Bolognese Sauce:

1. Heat a large skillet and saute the diced white onions in extra virgin olive oil over medium heat for 5 minutes or until soft.

2. Add the dried oregano, garlic, diced celery and carrots, and cook until soft.

3. Add the lean ground beef and Italian sausage, followed by the tomato paste loosened with water. Add the bay leaves and red wine then allow this mixture to simmer for 8 - 10 minutes.

4. Once your bolognese sauce is a rich shade of red/brown, top it off with a little Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper.

Directions for the Lasagna Sheets:

1. As your bolognese cooks, prepare your pasta sheets by boiling them in a large pot of salted water.

2. Once you've cooked the lasagna sheets until they are al dente, run them under cold water and set aside.

Directions for the White Sauce:

1. Fry the butter until it melts, then add flour.

2. Bring the flour and butter together until the mixture has a thick consistency.

3. Pour in the cold milk in 1/3 intervals, ensuring you vigorously whisk the ingredients together each time you pour in the milk.

4. Once you've poured in the last 1/3 of the cold milk, season the creamy white sauce with salt, pepper, and nutmeg, ensuring there are no clumps.

5. Add cheddar cheese and whisk vigorously until the cheese melts.

Assembling the Lasagna:

2. Pour a layer of bolognese over the lasagna sheets, followed by another generous layer of the cheesy white sauce. Repeat this process until you've used up the bolognese, white sauce, and lasagna sheets.

3. Add a layer of parmesan and cheddar cheese and place the tray into an oven set at 350 F.

4. Remove the lasagna from the oven after 45 minutes, top with fresh parsley, and enjoy.
